London and Sheffield based Industrial Design Practice, Fripp Design and Research, are delighted to have been recognised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (The IET) through the awarding of the prestigious Manufacturing Technology Award at the IET Innovation Awards that took place at the Brewery
in London in December.

The award was recognition of the impact the new Picsima silicone 3D Print technology is having on manufacturing and the potential the technology will have in transforming patient specific health care in the future.

“It is extremely pleasing for our company to be recognised by our peers in the winning of this award” stated Tom Fripp, Managing Director at Fripp Design and Research.

Fripp Design and Research has been designing new products for clients since 2005. “The team at Fripp Design and Research have a unique combination of 10 years new product and industrial design experience and a thorough understanding of the variety of 3D Printing technologies for building prototype parts for our clients” stated Fripp.

“Through the learning of the chemistry of curing silicone for a prosthetics manufacturing project, we had a ‘light bulb’ moment on how you might 3D Print silicone, rather than mould it; and Picsima was born” continued Fripp. “Although Picsima is important to the company, our focus continues to be in delighting clients through  innovative industrial and product design. The winning of the IET award is very important as it further reassures clients of our ability to develop and deliver market winning products for them”.

The company is currently completing the patent application for the Picsima process and are confident of having a patent granted in Q1 2016.
