Rotherham-based Martek Marine, one of the world leaders in the supply of safety and environmental monitoring systems for the shipping industry, is strengthening its presence within the North American and Asia Pacific markets by establishing regional offices in these territories.

Martek Marine established the Houston base in April this year, which is presided over by Matt Roberts, Regional Sales Manager – North America:

“We have decided to set up a regional presence in Houston in order to get closer to our many customers in this part of the world.  The North American Shipping Industry is of great importance and significance to the Global market and having a direct presence will help Martek further increase its share in this region.”  Says Mr Roberts.

The new office in Houston allows Martek  to be able to deliver to the North American market the complete range of Martek products and services, for both new-building and retrofit projects including: the Navgard BNWAS system, the Bulksafe Water Ingress Detection System and the new Fastcalgas calibration gas supply service.

Mr Roberts says:

“With impending regulatory changes we are seeing a major upturn in interest from North American shipowners and operators in our BNWAS technology, which we will be able to respond to much quicker from Houston. Furthermore, our Fastcalgas service goes from strength to strength in the US market after we introduced stock holding hubs in North America to ensure speed of response is of the essence."

Martek Marine (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd, which was incorporated last year, is based in Singapore and headed by Simon Whitaker, regional director, who has many years of experience delivering business growth in Asia Pacific. He will be supported by two Internal Co-ordinators and four external sales people.

Martek is recruiting additional members of team which will include a technical engineering resource to augment its technical support resources in the UK. This will provide the platform for the company to offer repair and calibration services for gas detection and other devices in Singapore.

Currently around 65% of Martek’s business is generated by customers based in Asia Pacific, with a growth rate faster than in Europe and the Americas. Mr Whitaker adds: “The shift in business that Martek has seen in the past 18 months or so has made it vital to have a direct presence in the region. By being in the same time zone, and having sales staff who speak the same language, we will have better connectivity with our customers.”

Martek Marine (Asia Pacific),  based central Singapore, will be the initial point of contact for customers across a wide geographic region, stretching from the Indian Sub Continent  to South East Asia and onto Australia and New Zealand, as well as the key North Asia markets of China, South Korea and Japan. The new company will offer the complete range of Martek products and services, in the same way as the US office does.
