Chance for Businesses to win share of 250m

posted 24 Mar 2010, 07:17 by RiDO Rotherham
Public-sector bodies with a combined spending power of £250m-plus are telling businesses: “We want to spend it with you!”

They range from Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to the NHS, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service to the University of Sheffield.

And they are all taking part in a Meet the Buyer event in Rotherham on Tuesday, January 26, to show what types of goods and services they are in the market for. The event is free, as is the practical advice and support available from an array of specialist business advisers.

It is the second in consecutive years organised by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and Business Link Yorkshire.

“We want to help companies – especially local ones – find as many opportunities as possible to win business,” said the Cabinet Member for economic development, planning and transportation, Cllr Gerald Smith.

The event is not exclusively for Rotherham companies, but the organisers hope many from across the borough and sub-region will grab the opportunities to win more business. Sessions include:

- Presentations ranging from finding out about contract opportunities, to the dos and dont's of completing tenders

- Website tours and e-tendering system demos

- Surgeries hosted by Business Link Yorkshire and the council’s regeneration arm, Rotherham Investment & Development Office (RiDO) – get one-to-one advice for your business

- An update on construction business in the region, by YORbuild, the umbrella for local authority procurement of building contractors

- Doing business electronically

- Help with business rates – practical advice on how the council can help businesses beat the credit crunch

The event will also give businesses an excellent networking opportunity. It is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

It runs from 9.30am-2pm at the Holiday Inn, West Bawtry Road, Rotherham S60 4NA (just off M1 J33). To reserve a place:
